Sometimes Bricks Make More Sense

31 Jan

There are some things in life that you cannot start a debate about and specifically with some people. You cannot discuss the merits of an iPhone to a BlackBerry with a huge BlackBerry fan or even an iPhone fan. They both can’t see the facts and only see their side and any other opposing view it wrong and it causes anger to enter the argument. The same can be said for a lot of debates going on in the world. Look at the gun control argument happening in the United States. The NRA type gun advocates will never see why some guns should be banned for consumer use. They truly believe that because the constitution mentions being allowed to bear arms, they should be allowed to have as many automatic guns in their homes. That background checks and any security around the guns should be abolished. Why? Because the second amendment says so. A part of the constitution that was written in December of 1791. It is over 200 years old and the advocates believe it should never be touched. Because clearly the writers of that amendment knew that the single fire guns that existed then would turn into machines designed to kill humans. The actual wording reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” That doesn’t really mean any one person can own whatever guns they want. But don’t tell that to the advocates. They want their machines guns. These kind of die-hard gun lovers are also the kind of person who would heckle the father of a dead six-year-old. Because the love of guns comes before common decency.

So what else can’t be argued? Don’t tell anyone that maybe Rob Ford isn’t the best mayor. His supporters will never acknowledge his well-documented short comings. Drunk driving conviction? He’s stopping the gravy train! Ignoring a huge festival and parade in the city? He’s saving us money! Violating the code of conduct that is integral to his job? He’s a football coach! It’s is like arguing with a child who can only say the word “mine!” That child will really hold onto that rock and say it is theirs. Just like Ford supporters hold on the notion that the man is infallible.

Here are other things that cannot be argued:

Religion to a religious person

Government can work to a union member

Elvis is good to a Beatles fan

Sparkly vampires are stupid to a teenage girl

Justin Bieber has a few good songs to a hipster

Smoker’s rights are not rights to a smoker

Wind energy is a good idea to a person of low intelligence (because there is no excuse)

These are things that cannot be argued no matter what. You are better off screwing your foot to a board and dropping it into a wood chipper. It would be far less painful.

Don’t forget the biggest argument of all time… Who was the best batman?! 1980 would tell you it is Val Kilmer due to his undying appreciation for everything that is Nik Rivers
